I have been taking photographs for over 25 years, working with both with digital and analogue, exploring pattern, shape, texture, growth, decay, patina, corrosion; experimenting, finding the meeting points of natural and man-made. In addition to shooting digitally and on film I hand-process and make prints in the darkroom. I often use slower processes such as cyanotype, van Dyck, chlorophyll, anthotype and lumen printing, which allow me to spend longer with each image and slow down the print making process. I have recently started exploring collagraph, drypoint and lino printmaking and am learning more about these techniques.
I have my studio in Leigh-on-sea, a beautiful seaside town which is both my inspiration and my birthplace. In addition to working in education I run photography and darkroom workshops on demand.
I won't be participating in the Leigh Art Trail this year (back in 2019) but urge you to visit if you can as there are some amazing artists: Saturday 9 June to Saturday 16 June, 2018
In 2008, in partnership with Amy McKenny, I founded TAP Gallery & Studios - a not-for-profit, artist-led gallery and studios housed between 2008 and 2016 in an old Water Works in Southend-on-sea. In 2010 and 2011 I co-ordinated Artside, a major contemporary Arts festival in Southend High Street, handling event management, marketing and design including printed and online/social media (see Press coverage). I was an artist in the Leigh Art Trail in 2013 and 2014 and will be returning again in 2017.
