<< Playing with Cordier's Chemigrams (Emma Emmerton, 2012)

Let there be light.  And darkness.
There are two kinds of light -- the glow that illuminates, and the glare that obscures.
      James Thurber (1894-1961)

In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary.
      Aaron Rose (1969-)

To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see & everything to do with the way you see them.
      Elliott Erwitt (1928-)

      /aboutme

      Photography
I love experimenting with digital and analogue and I carry a camera everywhere, taking photos of things that stand out to me, then explore how I can appropriate their elements: patterns, shapes, textures.  I love organic, chaotic nature and its processes; growth, decay, textures, patinas, corrosion, wabi-sabi; finding the meeting points of natural and the man-made.  I also hand-process and make prints in the darkroom and with processes such as cyanotype, van Dyck and lumen printing, which allow me to spend time with an image and slow down the print making process.

      Recent Projects
In 2009 I set up CoExist - a not-for-profit, artist-led gallery and studios housed in an old Water Works in Southend-on-sea.  I was also a founder of the wider TAP project, a creative hub bringing together many creative third sector industries in Southend.
In 2010/11 I co-ordinated Artside, a major contemporary Arts festival launched in Southend High Street, handling the event management, marketing and design including printed and online/social media (see Press coverage).
In addition to these roles and making my own work I have also run several photography and darkroom courses at TAP since 2009.
